Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to your toolbar, open any webpage, and click the icon. The pop-up loads a full-on-page SEO report in a few seconds, with no account or setup required.
Installing the extension #
SEO Action Plan is a free Chrome extension, so installing it is the same as installing any other extension from the Chrome Web Store. It doesn’t ask for an email address or payment method at any point.
- Go to the SEO Action Plan listing on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, then confirm by clicking Add extension in the pop-up.
- Chrome installs it in a few seconds and shows a confirmation.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, find SEO Action Plan in the list, then click the pin icon to keep it visible in your toolbar.
Running your first audit #
Once it’s pinned, using it is a two-click process on any page.
- Open the page you want to check, your own site, a client’s page, or a competitor’s page.
- Click the SEO Action Plan icon in your toolbar.
- The pop-up opens on the Dashboard tab, showing indexing status, word count, readability, image and link counts, and a performance score at a glance.
- Use the tabs across the top (SEO, Social, Headings, Images, Links, Schema, Performance, Content, Tools, AI) to drill into any specific area.
- For a longer read, click Full Report to open the same data in a full browser tab instead of the small pop-up window.
A few things worth knowing before you start #
- The extension needs no account, and no data is sent to any server we run. Everything runs inside your browser.
- It won’t work on Chrome’s internal pages, the Web Store itself, or PDF files. The icon will appear greyed out there.
- You can toggle the extension off for specific sites from the pop-up settings if you don’t want it running everywhere.
- The AI tab is optional and needs your own API key. Every other tab works without one.
From here, the overview of what each tab checks is a good next read if you want to understand the full picture before digging into individual features.
No. The extension works immediately after installing, with no account, email, or signup required. The only exception is the optional AI tab, which needs your own API key from a supported provider.
Yes. The extension works on any page Chrome can load, including competitor pages, staging environments, and localhost. There’s a per-site toggle to turn it off on specific sites.
Chrome doesn’t allow extensions to run on its own internal pages (chrome://…), the Chrome Web Store, or PDF files. On those pages, the icon is disabled by design, not because of a bug.
